Monthly Gathering: Leveraging Privilege

THEPUBLIC will gather once again in person for our next event on Tuesday, April 12th. We are extremely excited to announce that we have a new meeting venue for our in-person gatherings, the Mockingbird Theater & Bar at the Factory in Franklin. Food and drinks will be available to purchase and enjoy before our 6:30 discussion begins. Join us at the Mockingbird as early as 4:45p.m. to grab a light meal and drinks.

We will be discussing the topic of Leveraging Privilege! Come ready for a thought-provoking and encouraging conversation. We look forward to seeing everyone!!! Of course, we will continue to stream on-line for those of you who are out of town or unable to join us in person.

Community Conversation on Race and Racism with Anthony Hendricks

Sunday, January 30th @ 2 - 4 pm - Join Anthony Hendricks at the Williamson County Main Library for a Community Conversation on Race and Racism. Anthony will share an educational presentation on the history of race and racism in our modern context, address some common misconceptions, answer questions, and encourage community discussion on these relevant issues. The presentation will be approximately an hour and a half, followed by a half hour of Q & A and will take place in the First Floor Meeting Room. A limited number of in-person attendees will be permitted to allow for social distancing. Monday, January 17th @ 11a.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church, The Public will join other justice organizations and Franklinites to commemorate the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. A variety of speakers will discuss, "Where Do We Go From Here?" as it relates to MLK's dream of equality and the Beloved Community. Our time will culminate at 11:15 am with our march to Downtown Franklin for a 12 noon MLK Day Celebration on the square of Downtown Franklin. Join us!!

The Public May Gathering

Join us for a discussion on "Why Race Still Matters" with Dr. Christina Edmondson. The rain date is Tuesday, May 11th.

Dr. Edmondson holds a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Tennessee State University, a MS degree from the University of Rochester in Family Therapy, and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Hampton University. A Certified Cultural Intelligence facilitator, public speaker, and mental health therapist, Christina is often contacted by churches to consult about leadership development, anti-racism, and mental health issues. Her writing has been seen and referenced in a variety of outlets including Essence.com, YourBlackWorld.com, and Gospel Today magazine. She is also one of the co-hosts of the Truth's Table podcast.
